Trekking Spots in Ahmednagar
Harishchandragad Hill Fort
Unarguably the most famous trekking destination of Maharashtra state. As matter of a fact this trekking destination is often touted as the ‘trekker’s ultimate paradise’ in Maharashtra. This famous trekking destination is located near Kothale and Belpada village, which are located approximately at the distance 150 kms away from Ahmednagar city.
From Ahmednagar it takes a road journey of more than 3 hours to reach these villages. Since time taken to travel is little high and also pretty exhausting, it is obvious that Ahmednagar trekkers will have to reach a day before and make an overnight stay at nearby villages.
As for Harischandragad fort, it is not called trekker’s paradise for nothing at all. It not only offers breathtaking views of nature from various points, but is widely considered as the most difficult trekking destination in entire Maharashtra. It is also probably the only trekking destination in entire Maharashtra where trekkers can do rappelling, rock climbing & valley crossing in one trek itself. As for attractions on this hill fort, there are way too many. One such attraction, which is also the most sought after point on this hill fort, is Konkan Kada. This is the most famous cliff on this hill fort from where trekkers get immensely breathtaking views of the nature. For some really memorable views trekkers must try to reach this cliff either early morning or evening (6 P.M).
Some other important attractions in Harischandragad fort are
- Harishchandreshwar Temple.
- Kedareshwar Cave – a beautiful Shivlinga surrounded by ice cold water is located here.
- Besides there are many other caves on this hill fort which actually act as natural shelter for trekkers.
Kalasubai PeakTo begin with, Kalasubai peak, located atop of Kalasubai hill range, is the highest peak in entire Maharashtra state. This fact alone is sufficient to make it one of the most sought after trekking destinations of Maharashtra state. It is located near famous Bhandardara hills station, 160 kms away from Ahmednagar city. The peak is located at the towering height of 5400 ft. But, climbing to this topmost peak isn’t that tough at all. In fact Kalasubai peak is considered amongst the easiest trekking spots of Maharashtra state.
The reason for this is that famous Kalsubai Temple (from which this hill range gets in name) is located at the summit peak, which is visited everyday by thousands of local devotees of nearby villages. And For the sake of visiting pilgrims, government and local authorities have constructed many ladders and staircases on the way, invariably also making trekking very easy. Although there are also other trekking routes for Kalsubai Peak, but they aren’t very popular among the trekkers.
As for main attractions on this tracking route, there are many apart from of course the majestic view one gets after reaching the Kalsubai Peak. This includes various historical forts like Kulang, Madan, and Alang fort. These historical forts can also be viewed from the Kalsubai Peak, which is indeed a fantastic view and is in fact one of the main attractions of this trekking destination.
And lastly about which villages or towns are near to Kalsubai peak, then there are 3 base villages through which Kalsubai peak is accessible. These are Bari, Indore and Ambewadi villages. Bari village is, however, most popular among trekkers, which located just 20 kms away from Bhandardara hills station.
