Chand Bibi Tomb

Chand Bibi Tomb is a simple three storey structure located on the top of a lush green hill, which is situated some 13 kms away from the center of Ahmednagar city. Although today this tomb is popularly known as Chand Bibi Tomb, its actual name is Salabat Khan’s Tomb and is dedicated to Salabat Khan. Both Chand Bibi and Salabat Khan were prominent figures during Nizam Shah Dynasty and were much loved & admired by the people of Ahmednagar. Chand Bibi was infact the acting queen (regent) of Bijapur, who is best remembered for her heroics against Mughal invasion of Ahmednagar Fort. The tomb may have been renamed as Chand Bibi by locals as mark of respect to her heroics and bravery. Although precise reason for locals calling it Chand Bibi Tomb instead of Salabat Khan’s Tomb is still not known.

Chand Bibi Tomb

As for the structure of this famous tomb, its very simple and doesn’t boost any architectural beauty. Today in fact it stands in a very depilated and ruined condition. However, the immense lush greenery surrounding the tomb will make anyone forget or overlook the fact that this famous tomb is not at all beautiful and is in fact in a very bad condition.  Moreover, when you climb the tomb and peak through many of its large windows you get to see even more beautiful top view of the lush, green hill and also of the Ahmednagar city. The top view is absolutely stunning and this is what makes the visit to this otherwise highly simple tomb so much worthwhile.

With so much beauty around this place, it goes without saying that carrying a camera or camera-enabled-phone is an absolute must when visiting this place. The photos and videos of this scenically beautiful place will surely cheer you up whenever you crave to come close to nature.

Now an important piece of information that needs to be brought to the notice of all the prospective visitors to this place. Please try to visit this tomb anytime between morning and evening. Visiting this place during late evening, especially after 7 pm, would surely be waste of time. As after 7 PM all the beautiful lush greenery of the surrounding here gets overwhelmed by the darkness and hence visitors visiting after 7 pm would end up feeling highly disappointed.  Another important information that all the prospective visitors must know is that inside condition of this tomb is as bad as it is from outside. Visitors may even come across some dirt and filth inside the tomb, but you’ll soon realize, as when you eventually get the beautiful top view from the tomb, that everything and anything for such beautiful view is absolutely worthwhile.

All said and done, Chand Bibi Tomb surely deserves a visit as it is a tiny little world basking in the lap of beautiful nature. And what makes this place even more deserving to be visited is the fact that it is located in the very heart of Ahmednagar city.
